Chapter Six

Tory crept down the stairs the next morning, embarrassed to have slept so late. She remembered Ben tucking the covers around her the night before and both of them slipping in on either side of her. After that, she remembered nothing.

She hadn’t meant to start married life by sleeping half of the morning away and shirking her duties. Hurrying into the kitchen, she saw Mary working on lunch preparations. “Good morning. I’m sorry I slept so late. What can I do to help you?”

Mary smiled gently. “Don’t go apologizin’ to me. You’re the bosses’ wife.”

Tory grimaced. “Were they real mad that I slept so late?”

Mary laughed. “Spent the whole time they was eatin’ starin’ at the ceiling like they was imagin’ you still in bed. Both of ’em was grinnin’ from ear to ear.”

Not knowing what to say to that, Tory remained silent. The way these people talked! She would never be able to be as open with intimacy as they all seemed to be.

Tory spent the morning learning about her new home and helping Mary with the cooking. Before she knew it, Ben and Wade came through the back door for lunch.

Mary left them alone and went out to help Cookie serve the men.

Ben waited until they were alone before wrapping an arm around her and pulling her close. “How’re you feelin’?

Tory’s face burned at the intimate question. “I’m fine. I’m sorry I didn’t get up to fix your breakfast.”

Ben kissed her forehead. “You were plumb tuckered out. When Wade and me got up, you never even moved.”

“Sorry. It won’t happen again. Lunch is ready.”

Wade closed in on her other side, grinning mischievously. “Oh, it’ll happen again, darlin’. There’s nothin’ to be sorry for. We wore you out. Are you sore?”

Tory ducked her head, not comfortable with this kind of conversation, especially in the light of day. “I’m fine.” Thankful when they sat down, Tory served lunch and didn’t breathe easily again until they’d finished and left.

Every time she looked at them it reminded her of what they’d done to her the night before. She kept dragging her eyes away from their hands and mouths, her face burning as she remembered how they felt on her body.

And now she knew exactly what lay behind that bulge in their pants.

Her mother would be horrified at the fact that she shared a bed with two men. That reminded her that she wanted to change the sheets. She’d seen the stain when she got out of bed this morning.

The afternoon passed in a flurry of activity that made her feel right at home. She didn’t mind hard work but she needed to know what they expected of her. She’d had so many changes in her life in the last year, it felt good to go about doing normal chores again.

She just had to tip-toe around the rest until she figured it out. She had no experience with being married, especially to two men unlike she’d ever known. She also hadn’t planned on the level of intimacy they demanded.
